What I wanted
Staff should make and take calls on their own Teams Phone number from inside their company’s web app, with no Teams client. One of the requirements looked ruled out by the published documentation for this path.
Findings
- A documented limitation didn’t hold up in testing. Before designing a workaround, a quick real test showed the requirement could be met. That saved building something we didn’t need.
- A button press isn’t proof. One call control didn’t always take effect on the first press. Check the real state after every action, not just the click.
- “Transferred” doesn’t mean a person answered. A successful transfer can still end in voicemail, and the app can’t tell the difference.
Wins
- Every call scenario we tested worked in the browser, all in one day after admin consent.
- It runs on standard Teams Phone numbers and policies, so there’s no second phone system to run.
Takeaway
When a capability table rules out the thing you need, run the cheapest real test before designing a workaround.
